No mo Bad Mojo -- Moving on to Gabriel Knight 1


So I finally finished Bad Mojo. I was really iritated towards the end because I had forgotten to do something earlier in the game, and had to backtrack a ton. The game's navigation system between various rooms was completely confusing. And the ending...Urgh... I will update this post later, because right now, I'm installing Gabriel Knight 1: Sins of the Fathers! Check out the GK voodoo museum in the picture.

Edited to add: So back to the ending of Bad Mojo -- the ending was so abrupt, and it really didn't make very much sense. Also, I wasn't very happy with the timed sequences that they threw into the end. It really forced me to rely on walkthroughs. I'd give this game a limited recommendation. It was very gruesome, but the interface was extremely intuitive. There were a ton of imaginative game play elements, but not enough to overcome a bad ending and just plain grossness.

So, I was able to install Gabriel Knight 1: Sins of the Fathers. The game was designed by Jane Jensen and published by Sierra. Sierra no longer produces the game or supports it, and I had to buy this game along with the second game used from Amazon. I spent quite a bit on two of the Gabriel Knight games, but so far it's been worth it.

A note: Because this is a very old game, people may have problems installing it on their newer computers. I didn't have to resort to the DOSbox emulator or VDMSound. I just downloaded an installation patch from a Gabriel Knight fan site.

This murder mystery set in New Orleans has Gabriel Knight, a boozehound writer (who is still working on his great American Novel), investigating mysterious murders associated with voodoo and black magic. The storytelling so far is terrific, and the game is highly interactive. However, it was made in 1993 so the graphics are very low-tech. The cumbersome interface also leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm enjoying it so far (especially Tim Curry's atrocious New Orleans accent).

Pardon my mixed-gumshoe phrases, but: The Game Is Afoot! Someone has been murdered on the train. Someone had to be murdered, this is a murder mystery, after all. But which passenger on this packed train did it? Did the murderer get away? Most likely not, seeing as how the train has been stopped by an avalanche. Will you help Poirot solve the mystery, and save your job, before the snow plows and police arrive? I would continue playing, but it's so darn hot here in Cambridge. Reading assignment

Reading list I've been wanting to do this for a while. With all the gaming that I've been doing recently, and with all of the social media I've been devouring, I feel like my attention span has wasted away to almost nothing. And so, I'm beginning a project where I actually read all of my actual, real, sitting lonely on a shelf books. We've accumulated so many books over the years that even though we've started to buy more and more digital books, we still have a small library's worth of books in our house. The project is daunting, so I'm starting small. One small shelf in one of our shorter bookshelves. It's full of classics mostly, with some contemporary fiction. Some of them I've already read, but that's OK. First up is: You know, an light and easy read to start. Happy reading everyone!

Witcher beauty

This game is just so gorgeous. Well, when you're not killing ghouls, foglets, wraiths, and all manner of foul beasts. I could just ride around on my trusty pal, Roach , for hours. The sound work is terrific, too -- wind rustling through the leaves or the sound of rain pelting the ground. Just tried my hand at streaming today. I'm thinking of doing a regular stream on Monday evenings, maybe Tuesdays. Since I'm playing The Witcher now, that's usually what I'll be streaming.
